Light Up Lawndale also plays a vital role in raising awareness and providing support for FEMA disaster flood assistance for residents on Chicago’s West Side. This year, we’re shining a light on the impact of the devastating floods that hit our neighborhoods in July 2023 on the West Side and again in September 2023 on the South Side. Many homes suffered severe water damage, with families facing significant losses, from structural damage to the destruction of personal belongings. Through this event, we aim to connect affected residents with valuable FEMA resources and assistance programs designed to help rebuild and restore their homes. Light Up Lawndale will feature information stations where residents can learn about available aid, the application process, and how to access the necessary funds to repair the damage caused by the floods. Together, as a community, we’ll support each other in rebuilding stronger bonds.
